Macaroni Kid Toy Review: Lights & Sound Vehicle Models for “Star Wars”

By Joyce Lee November 24, 2015

Our family is eagerly awaiting the new “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” movie set to hit theaters December 18th.  In the meantime, we were delighted to review these realistic replica toys of the Millennium Falcon and Poe's X-Wing Fighter.   Made by Revell, these SnapTite Build & Play model kits come with 15-20 pre-decorated parts and are designed to look like accurate facsimiles of vehicles on the big screen.  Thankfully these models are snap-together vehicles that do not need glue, paint, or, tools and even includes batteries!

We timed the putting together process, and all in all, it took about 15 minutes to build the Millennium Falcon with our 6 year old.  He proudly aligned all the parts and snapped them together himself.  We went through the instructions step by step together, and (as much as possible) allowed him to be independent in figuring out what to do.  It was pretty easy to complete and there were no real complications.  He was so proud of his work when he finished, and was immediately running off to play with it.  We love the lights and sounds that simulate battle action at a push of a button, and the details of the retractable landing gear is a nice touch.

The Poe’s X-Wing Fighter took us a little longer to build, about 25 minutes.  It wasn’t as easy for my son to build this one without my help.  We were mainly stuck on how to snap the wings together until we realized that we needed to cross them like an x in order for it to slide and snap.  We should have known, since it’s an “X Wing.”  Without that little hiccup, it probably would have also taken about 20 minutes.  This one has a nice open/close cockpit hatch, wings that open into attack mode, and it also has battle action sounds.  It’s great how you can open up the wings easily in one hand to quickly transition into attack mode any time.  My son had so much fun flying this around with the Millennium Falcon.

If both of these toys were Christmas gifts to siblings, I would give the Millennium Falcon to the younger one and the Poe’s X-Wing Fighter to the older one since the Millennium was easier to complete.  These models are available at Target and Toys R Us store for only $19.99 each, and are for ages 6 and up.  For more information, visit www.revell.com.
