Macaroni Kid Review

Rise of the Guardians

November 20, 2012

This past weekend, a few Macaroni Kid publishers had the privilege of being invited to a special pre-viewing of Dreamworks' new animated movie, The Rise of the Guardians. The movie debuts this coming Wednesday, November 21st. At first glance, I had seen some of the trailers, and thought it was an interesting spin on classic characters we've all grown up with: Santa Clause, Easter Bunny, Sandman, Tooth Fairy, and Jack Frost. Although I didn't know what to expect, I had pretty high expectations since I love other Dreamworks films in the past. I am happy to say, not only did the movie meet those high expectations, it exceeded them by a long shot!

The creativity of the storyline was both heart-warming, endearing, and downright entertaining. It also comes at the perfect time since the Holiday Season is upon us. For those of you (similar to me) who have not heard much about the film, the story cutely depicts these childhood classics as a super-hero team, known as the Guardians (i.e., a team that would rival the "Avengers" in a light-hearted way), and follows them on a journey to protect the children from the Boogeyman.

I was lucky enough to see the film in 3D, and I must say how vivid and beautiful it looked! I usually get dizzy during 3D movies, but the quality here was awesome! It would be generic for me to say there is something in the film for everyone, but it's true. I laughed, I cheered, and I even saw my husband shed a tear at one point in the movie. Great family film and would definitely see it again as I can see this becoming a classic!

One thing to note was the film is rated PG for Parental Guidance. I thought the rating was appropriate considering there were parts where the Boogeyman can come off as too scary, or where the movie gets really loud. This is where I thought my decision to leave my toddlers at home was the right decision in this case.

For those who do go and see the film, would love to hear what you think about the film too! Drop us a line, and let other parents know too!
