MK REVIEW: The Flower Fields at Carlsbad is in Full Bloom!

April 12, 2021

Last week during Spring Break, we went to the Flower Fields. The last time we visited this beautiful place is a few years ago and I still remember fondly how we loved our time there. With COVID-19 pandemic still going on here in California, I’m more inclined to visit outdoor places especially my little ones are quite active and tend to touch everything. I’m not too worried prior to my visit since all of my past experiences in the Flower Fields had always been wonderful ones as everything was always properly organized.

We made our online reservation prior to our visit, which is the only way to be able to get the tickets. No tickets are sold on site, so if you arrive without a ticket, the attendant there will direct you to the Flower Fields website to purchase your tickets. Be sure to visit the Flower Fields website here to purchase your tickets prior to your visit.

Once we got inside, we were welcomed with simply breathtaking views of rows and rows of beautiful & fully blossomed Giant Tecolote Ranunculus flowers, nearly 50 acres of them to be exact! There are designated areas for visitors to take pictures with each shade of the Ranunculus flowers. It was easy to do social distancing since there are plenty of spaces everywhere. We were allowed to temporarily take off our mask to take pictures as long as we put it back on once we are done.

There are signs reminding visitors to be mindful of other people and suggested to take no more than 10 minutes to take picture in the designated benches. I’m thankful that most people respected this while we were there although there were also those who took longer than that. Be sure to schedule some time if you want to take pictures in each of the photo locations.

That’s not all that there is in the Flower Fields. There was also the Sweet Pea Maze, which is quite challenging for our 7-year old and he gave up half way and went back to the entrance. He gave it another go and was able to finish the maze. I love the giant chair which is fun to take picture on with the family. If you want to learn more about the history of the Flower Fields, there is a movie called Legacy of Color playing in the barn, with socially distanced benches available. Then there is the Santa’s Playground, which is a cute little playground area that kids are able to enjoy and explore.

By this time, we had already spent around 4 hours in the Flower Fields and my youngest one was getting too tired so unfortunately we had to stop exploring. If you’re up to it, there are the American Flag of Flowers, Antique Tractor Wagon Tour, Artist Gardens & Bird Aviaries, Cymbidium Orchid Greenhouse, Historic Poinsettia Display, Demonstration Garden, and the New this year U-Pick Blueberries. We sadly had to miss seeing the American Flag of Flowers which we intended to see by taking the Antique Tractor Wagon Tour but had to cancel. If you are interested to see it, plan to take the tour at the beginning of the visit so you can see the whole place.

We concluded our visit by getting a few stuffs from the gift shop near the exit. We had an enjoyable day in the Flower Fields. The kids had a blast and got their energy out playing outdoor to their heart’s content. Unfortunately we couldn’t get tickets to the U-Pick Blueberries, which were sold out. If you are interested, check back soon as more tickets will be available for purchase by mid April.
