Description
This year's "Snow Days with the Critters," the Santa Ana Zoo's exciting weekend winter celebration, is on Saturday, December 14 and Sunday, December 15 from 11 AM to 2 PM, rain or shine. Open to the general public, as well as Zoo members, the annual Snow Day with the Critters experience is included with the price of admission and free to Children 2 and under and members of the Santa Ana Zoo. On Sunday, December 15, Santa Ana residents can visit the Zoo and take part in this event for FREE! Proof of residency is required.
During the two-day event, many Zoo animals will receive icy treats and snow enrichments from our staff, while guests listen to festive music, enjoy the winter decorations, discover how animals adapt to surviving in freezing environments, create cool crafts, and listen to delightful winter stories. There will be a designated area for small children to play with magic "faux" snow, underwritten by Orange/Villa Park Chapter, NCL Inc.
Kona Ice, an ongoing sponsor of Snow Days with the Critters, will also be onsite with delicious and colorful shaved ice for purchase as well as providing icy treats for the animals.
"Snow Days with the Critters was created to bring together family and friends to learn more about animals and support the Zoo's ongoing conservation efforts," says David Exline, FOSAZ Board President. "Our Snow Days event is a fantastic way to celebrate the Season and enjoy everything the Zoo has to offer including our Zoofari Express Train ride, the Conservation Carrousel, Fifty Monkey Ferris Wheel, our popular playgrounds, Bean Sprouts Café and our picnic tables.
"As an added treat, guests will enjoy decorations with a frosty theme and falling snow as they enter the gate. Beautiful, original hand-crafted adornments are perfect for pictures and depict many holiday favorites including Santa's Workshop, Sweet Shop and Post Office cut outs of 3-dimensional wood, all individually designed and painted by Friends of Santa Ana Zoo (FOSAZ) Board Member Rip Ribble.
Designated as the "Home of the 50 Monkeys," the Santa Ana Zoo is home to more than 260 animals, including giant anteaters, ocelots, several farm favorites and 60 of the most interesting and engaging primates, including the endangered golden lion tamarins. The Zoo is open daily from 10:00 am - 4:00 pm. To become a member of the Zoo, please call (714) 953-8555 x12. The Santa Ana Zoo in Prentice Park is located at 1801 East Chestnut Avenue, Santa Ana, CA 92701.
